INVITATION

To the 12th Butterlamp Ceremony (2001-2002)

The Chhimed Rigdzin Society announces the 12th Butterlamp Ceremony to be held from 24.12.2001 to 15.1.2002 at the Chhimed Rigdzin Society's Monastery at Dhansara village, Ranidanga, Siliguri, Dist. Darjeeling, W.B., India.

Following are the details of the retreat:

Fee: The retreat fee inclusive food is US Dollars 300,-- per person. A sum of US$ 150,-- would be charged for the accommodation (twin-share basis bamboo hut). And US$ 280,-- for couples or occupying alone.

Though we don't encourage tents, because of the wet ground, one may bring tent and no charge for accommodation will be asked.

It will be difficult for the organizers to accommodate in the hut those who fail to confirm in writing before 15.november 2001.

Note: The prevailing exchange rate is approx. Rs. 46,-- per one US$ (20.5.2001). The retreat fee would be accepted only in Indian Rupees! The State Bank in Siliguri is changing only US$ and British Pounds in cash and American Express and Thomas Cook travellers' checks. Credit cards at the Bank of Baroda and other currency could be tried at the private money changers for a higher rate. To avoid any problem the best is to change in Delhi or Calcutta.

Now there are money machines in Siliguri and even in Shivmandir where it is possible to withdraw money with an EC-Card (no VISA accepted, max. 10.000 or 20.000 Rs.). Maybe the best possibility to get money if the machines are working.

Food: Both, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food will be provided. Those who will bring children should bring the necessary special diets along with their medicines.

Baby-sitter: Can be arranged for a payment of Rs. 70,-- per day. Those who need, should specify it in their confirmation letter.

Medicine: It is preferable that people bring their basic medicines and should be vaccinated against Malaria.

Clothing: Though the weather is quite enjoyable, it is moderately or even quiet cold and wet at night and in the morning. A good woollen pullover or jacket would be good. Do not forget to bring your (warm) sleeping-bag.

How to reach: For those who never came to Siliguri before, a transportation will be made to pick you up from the train station and from the airport. Cost: RS. 250,--. After landing in any of the cities like Delhi, Bombay (Mumbai), Calcutta, and Madras, one should book a train ticket with destination N.J.P. (New Jal-paiguri) or an air ticket with destination Bagdogra Airport. Those who wish to be picked up at the train station or at the airport should send a message when their final bookings are done.

For return journey: If you wish, Sashi tours and travels may take care of your flight booking from Bagdogra or train ticket ex N.J.P. To avoid any disappointment you may contact Mrs. S.C. Lama in advance. Please note: It is better to reach the final departure point at least two days in advance.

All correspondences and a committed enrolment have to be sent, latest by November 15th, 2001 to Mr. D.M.R. Lama, N-17 Green Park extension, New-Delhi 110016, India, phone: 0091-11-619-4347, fax: 0091-11-619-4145.
